We were impressed with the three women from La Libertad, Huehuetenango who represented the Coopesqui cooperative, and even more impressed with the coffee they offered us.

At the base of Mount Elgon near Kenya’s border with Uganda, some 3,000 smallholder growers deliver their selectively harvested cherries to the Kimama washing station. The high altitude farms and red volcanic soil of the Bungoma region are well suited for growing highly regarded local varieties that help farmers balance productivity with quality. Once cherries reach the washing station, they are hand sorted for ripeness, then washed and pulped. A 14–16 hour fermentation follows, breaking down the remaining mucilage and leaving behind a sparkling clean profile that lets the terroir shine. The profile is further refined by the AA selection, one of Kenya's most uniform and premium quality grades.

Many Geisha varietal coffees sold in the U.S. come from Panama — descended from Ethiopian seed, but shaped by Panamanian terroir since the mid-20th century. This coffee, however, was cultivated on the Gesha Village Coffee Estate in Bench Maji, near the Gori Gesha forest where the variety was first catalogued in 1931. The founders of Gesha Village, Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton, handpicked seeds from that forest and brought them to their farm, preserving the unique genetics of heirloom Gesha. This lot was grown on the Bangi section of the farm, one of three plots where those Gori Gesha seeds took root. After a selective harvest, the perfectly ripe cherries were sun-dried with meticulous care, resulting in a profile that showcases the variety and reflects the region’s historic terroir.

Ethiopia Gori Gesha Natural (WB 7oz)
Many Geisha varietal coffees sold in the U.S. come from Panama — descended from Ethiopian seed, but shaped by Panamanian terroir since the mid-20th century. This coffee, however, was cultivated on the Gesha Village Coffee Estate in Bench Maji, near the Gori Gesha forest where the variety was first catalogued in 1931. The founders of Gesha Village, Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton, handpicked seeds from that forest and brought them to their farm, preserving the unique genetics of heirloom Gesha. This lot was grown on the Bangi section of the farm, one of three plots where those Gori Gesha seeds took root. After a selective harvest, the perfectly ripe cherries were sun-dried with meticulous care, resulting in a profile that showcases the variety and reflects the region’s historic terroir.
